Durrockstock Park with some Glasgow volunteers trying to remove the turf which has been a bit of an ordeal over the last couple of weeks as any of our Wednesday group will know. We finally managed to get the turf cutter into the van but the problems didn’t end there. Luckily for us the council hadn’t cut the grass which meant for the machine to be of any use it would have to be man handled by two people at a time. Needless to say by the end of the day the volunteers tasked with using the turf cutter were in an exhausted state only having completed half of the task which means it’s down to the trusty Renfrewshire group to finish the other half off when the weather is good enough.
On Tuesday Julie had to catch up on the paper work so it was left to me to lead the group. We were out at the Linwood Community Woodlands where we would be doing some litter picking and a general tidy up of the path. After doing the warm up we headed into the woods where I discovered that the volunteers had given the section of path we would be working on a nickname “The Trim Trail” and all of a sudden it seemed awful coincidental that Julie had a lot of paperwork to do! We proceeded into the woods and by tea break had covered the entire path so I thought we would do something a bit more fun, making habitat piles. We managed to make 3 of them in a short space of time so well done! I hope I did a good enough job of leading feel free to let me know if I didn’t as long as you give me some constructive criticism.
Wednesday we went to Cochrane Castle School to clear out some raised beds of weed and turn the soil so that we could eventually make them into a fun area for the kids. It was very hard work but with the help of everyone there we managed to get a lot done. Unfortunately Robbie wasn’t out with us this week which meant it was very quiet due to the lack of banter between John and him hopefully he will be back soon, it was just too quiet without him!
Thursday we were back at Cochrane Castle doing the same task once again we were clearing out the beds. We managed to finish off the first on and started on the second. I have to say Bob was great ferrying all of the waste materials from the back of the school to the front. He didn’t stop all afternoon and by the end of it there were about 25 bags full of rubbish all neatly piled out at the front of the school.
Thanks to all the volunteers once again for coming out with us!
