Well we had our first miserable day of wind and rain a couple weeks back, and I was pleasantly surprised how many people turned up! We did something a bit different and went for a nature walk along towards Dysart, on the Fife Coastal Path, with Rachel, a VO from Edinburgh. It was a nice change for everyone, and the volunteers started pointing out things to show off their new-found knowledge, and pointing out other things in order to test Rachel’s! Once back on site, everyone got stuck in clearing the ivy and collecting logs for edging the path. The cobbles got finished off and they look fantastic.
The following week, the bulbs went in and the path started to take shape with the first of the edging. It was a lovely calm day in comparison to the previous week. In fact, the path that we had walked along the previous week had been washed away in places by the storms that had hit in the evening of the previous Monday. A very large digger went past, so of course we had to go for a wander to take a looksie at the havoc caused by the sea. A wall of 2-tonne concrete blocks had been scattered, and the road was barely recognisable!
This week, the path continued to take shape (we nearly lost a pinch bar down into the mine in the process!). Martin did an expert job of cutting up the logs and stakes for us. We had a visit from a photographer from the East Fife Mail, who chose Martin’s woodpile as the scene of our photo. We also put in a stone step down to the path from the cobbled area, and spread some gravel to cover over the mud underfoot. Finally, we retreated to the warmth of the community room for a cup of tea as the rain started to come down again. With our remaining 2 weeks we hope to finish off the path and have some Christmassy-related fun.
