The drystone seating project has taken over life in Howden for the last couple of weeks. It started with a corporate group the week after the foundations were laid who got a good amount done. John (the pro) got loads more done the following morning before our Green Gymers turned up and helped with the secret concrete core of the wall. Another enthusiastic corporate group, and a wee bit of help from the Edinburgh mid-week group got us to the point of having the slabs on for the seats. So we’ve already been using the seats to sit and have our cuppas even though there’s still a wee bit of work to be done. We’ve also had some more plants go in and the bulbs are now planted… look out for a heart made of daffodils springing up next year, that’s what happens when you let volunteers use their initiative, tsk. We finally decided to go something about the scruffy patch of land outside our gates (can’t have the neighbours bringing down the area) and we’ve had a lot of good comments from people passing by about how much more pleasant it is already.
