On Tuesday we started an exiting new project repairing the bank of the river in the Hermitage of Braid.
There is large erosion alongside the path which has become a bit of a hazard for walkers. We are putting hurdles in at the bits of the bank that are eroded and then backfilling with hard core to shore up the river bank. To do this we have been felling elm trees to use for the posts and the thin bits for the weaving. We are using elm because it does not rot in water and can last for hundreds of years when submerged.
On Wednesday we continued with the river bank repairs we got all the posts completed and whacked them into the river bead which was thanfkully very easy as we encountered very few rocks. We then started some of the weaving.
On Thursday we were back at polkermont in the pond we were digging out ponds within ponds and channels conecting the ponds within ponds together. This is to try and get the water circulating around the pond. This is a very mucky smelly job as when you dig nasty smells emerge from the depths. however the pond is now close to completion so a big thanks to all the volunteers for putting up with this very smelly and mucky job.
