So we’ve done 3 weeks of work at West Wemyss now, in our 10 week Green Gym programme. The first week saw us go for a walk around the village and the local woodlands, seeing what the Community Development Trust have planned. We then got started on working in front of the fabulous mural, continuing the cobblestones that are already there.
We also started on raising the level of the ground in front of the seat, which was perfect if you were a giant but not so good if you were of average height; your feet would just dangle in mid-air!
In the second week, we took advantage of the low tide to nip down to the beach and collect as many stones as we could. Pushing wheelbarrows full of rocks up a steep hill will certainly get you fit, as long as it doesn’t break you in the process! It was great this week to get a bit of help from a couple of the regular Fife volunteers and we were able to come up with a system which was much easier on the muscles.
We got a lot done, and it’s looking great already. Which is good as we were being filmed by Volunteer Centre Fife, for a short piece to be shown at their volunteer awards ceremony in November (apparently I’m a natural…!)
Next week we hope to finish off the cobbling and start on clearing the woodland area ready for planting some bulbs.
