Tuesday; where is that Island?
Polkemmet Country Park. Picked up volunteers and headed out to the 9th hole to try and find a small island that needed some rhododendron cutting back. The weather was all over the place, rain , wind, blistering sunshine; as we managed to find the small island we donned wellies and climbed over armed with loppers and bow saws. Cutting back till lunch; then a walk to The Horn while others sheltered from the rain with birthday cake; sunshine after lunch as we cut more then burnt. Heading off the 9th after a good day.
Wednesday:
Easter Craiglockhart Hill – info boards and vegetation clearance.
Sunshine mornings, we unloaded at Easter Craiglockhart Hill with shovels and the like and had a brew and some biscuits, met some new volunteers, and game planned the day of digging and cutting; we split off into two groups; one digging the hole for the sign, one cutting back around the park. We split off and dug and cut, meeting up for lunch with a incredible views of wild birds of prey and Edinburgh. Tea and biscuits, lunch over and back to more digging and cutting, sunshine still flows all day as we pack up and make a move home.
Thursday:
John Muir Country Park
Pick up point moved to around the corner today; Beautiful sunshine greated our morning as we headed off to John Muir Country Park.About half an hour away from Edinburgh central.We met the Ranger on the way in and she guided us down some small paths of Rody Jungle until we got stuck in mud. Through some excellent team work we got out of the mud and parked up, unloaded and walked down to the cliffs edge of John Muir Country Park where we where to clear some Sea Buckthron.
Windy conditions at times, sunshine all day and the wind at lunch blew us all away;
Cleared Sea Buckthorn with bowsaws and loppers walked back into Rody Jungle then home.
