The group in Fife have started a mini green gym activity for the next ten weeks – we are working in a woodland next to Kingsbarns at Cambo estate. The aim of the project is to manage the woodland better for the community and to enhance the biodiversity of what is already there. The estates team have been removing diseased elm and we are hacking away at the ivy climbing up the trees as well.
We have started to clear away the perimeter wall freeing it of vegetation and rubbish as there is a bit of fly tipping over the wall.
We managed to clear the steps over the wall despite the nettle stings and tripping over golf balls!!!
This week we are heading up there again to chop up some of the enormous piles of dead wood and turn them into small habitat piles.
We’ve got our last 2 days in the next fortnight at Muiravonside rhoddy bashing. Think its time for the marshmallows and potatoes at lunchtime!!
The Green Gym in Glenrothes is running well – we have all been going home with armfuls of potatoes and onions as well as beetroot and cauliflowers!! Fiona tried her hand at soup and brought us all in a taste – magic!
Looking forward to planting for the autumn now and preparing the ground for next seasons produce!
