As Leigh has now sadly left us I’m afraid you will be left with my ramblings from now on. I’m not sure I will be as entertaining as Leigh but I will try my best.
So what have we been up to in the last two weeks. We have been focussing on cutting back vegetation that is encroaching over footpaths. The team has been working hard at Linwood Lade, Renfrew cycle path and also Jenny’s Well Local Nature Reserve. We also spent an afternoon out at Kilbarchan, doing everyones favourite task: pulling out Ragwort. I strangely enjoy it and we had a cracking day of sunhine with great views over Renfrewshire and beyond.
The all day session this month was held at Ralston Community Centre where we continued work on the playgroup garden. In one day we managed to build four raised beds, shovel 3 tonnes of top soil, stencil a hopscotch onto the slabs and have enough time to enjoy some scones with jam baked my Ann – what a team!
Perhaps our most unusual day was Tuesday when we were working at the Linwood Community Garden. We were joined by Cora Buchanan who is Miss Earth Renfrewshire. Cora is competing in the Miss Earth pageant and came down to give us a hand for the afternoon. We were all suitably scruffy and covered in soil when Cora arrived looking lovely. Cora helped us harvest our tatties (which I enjoyed for dinner last night) and tend to our veggie patch. Good luck with your pageant you’ve got our vote anyway!
Have a great weekend folks and see you soon for more Green Gym fun,
Julie
