Well what a start to the week we’ve all had here at the Renfrewshire Green Gym. The first site visit of the week was to the Linwood Community Garden. What awaited us shocked the group as at some point in the past week, vandals had climbed the fence to the community gardens. After a quick assessment it was decided that the damage that had been done was not that bad and could be repaired. So what we did have planned went quickly out of the window as we set to the task of repairing any of the damage. The good thing about bottle greenhouses is they can be easily repaired. The annoying thing is the garden and all its contents are there for the community to use, all it takes are a couple of idiots to try and ruin things. But we wont let that stop us, things were repaired quickly.
Wednesday and Thursday were both spent at the Ralston Community Centre and the adjoining Playgroup, where on wedndesday we were tasked with planting some nice shrubs and plants in an area to the rear of the centre. On Thursday our task for the day was to lay down a lovely stepping stone path for children to play on. So what was just a green mound of grass, has now become something interesting for the children. We also washed the pathing stones around the area, then used some stencils to make the area more interesting by spray painting lots of different pictures of various animals and creatures on them. Either Julie or myself will visit the site again in the near future so we can get a better photo of the path after its settled itself in and the rains have washed away any soils.
Thank you ladies and gents for joining us on our adventures and as next week is my last week with the Green Gym I guarantee the blog will never be the same again.
Yours
Leigh
