Last Thursday we headed off to The Royal Edinburgh Hospital for a bout of fencing.
The aim of the day was to put up the rest fence posts, string up the wire and hang the two smaller gates. Oh yes, and a little bit of weeding.
The purpose of the fencing, John? To keep out the people-eating rabbits.
The fence proved troublesome (as did the gates) – some posts were technically concreted in, others weren’t; there was a shortage of tools – although some alternatives were found: large rocks in place of mells etc etc.
The plus was, that although nobody bar Myke and Martin had any idea about fencing at the beginning of the day; by the end nearly everybody had had a shot at it.
The gates were also problematic as although there was space for 2 gates (one to the north and one to the east), only one gate could physically be found.
Myke started a fungi tasting session – no lasting effects as far as can be seen – although he has not turned up at the office yet…………..maybe it was a slow-acting poision?
By the end of the day, the north end of the allotments was looking great – the fence is up and the gate is hung. Overhanging vegetation foliage had be nicely cut back from the sides.
