Last week, huge progress was made at Girvan Community Garden with the Green Gym. The Community Garden is being partly funded and featured by the Beechgrove Garden.
Monday began with the team clearing huge amounts of rubble from the garden, setting in bricks for a “performance area” (I’m still not totally sure about what this is!!), creating pathways, levelling ground in preparation for slabbing, and constructing a pergola. We were well catered for by the team in Girvan who supplied us with tasty sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes, all very healthy. We were filmed by Beechgrove putting the pergola up, which may not have been the best time to catch us on camera! If anyone has put together flat-pack furniture before, then you’ll know how we were feeling!
On Tuesday we carried on with lots of landscaping work and plenty of wheelbarrowing and shovelling. Turn out for the Green Gym was excellent, with around 15 people on the day, alongside regular Mid-Week Group volunteers and also volunteers from Girvan Community Garden. In addition to this were all the presenters, camera men, producers etc from Beechgrove Garden, so it was quite a hectic day.
I can’t get photos to load properly just now, so you’ll just have to:
Watch the programme to see what we did on the day! Wednesday 21st, 7.30 on BBC1!
They even filmed the Green Gym warm-up, though this was at the end of the day so we did things a little backwards – not for the first time! Again we were rewarded with tasty treats and even a miniature Glenfiddich, courtesy of local company, Grants Whisky.
Did I mention… we’re going to be on Beechgrove Garden this week!
