BTCV has teamed up with BSkyB to help with community projects in and around West Lothian and Fife. In Livingston, their help has been invaluable in Howden and the Walled Garden wouldn’t be looking so healthy!
Along with regular teams of volunteers on Tuesdays & Thursdays, teams from all over BSkyB have been getting all the dirty hard work done on Wednesdays since the beginning of March. They’ve managed to dig up and remove all the tree stumps from trees the volunteers had cut down – a horrible job but someone’s got to do it!
They also managed to dig out a couple of paths to complete a continuous route for any wheeled visitors entering the garden – always nice to go back a different way than you came I think. They have been troopers at digging over and weeding 25 years worth of roots, miles and miles of roots, which have formed mats just below the surface!
It has been great working with all the teams coming out to the garden, who have been ‘let out’ for the day form their comfortable office environment and doing a grand job with much enthusiasm. The initiative used with some of the tasks has been much appreciated – by putting heads together and voicing ideas, we came up with the idea of reusing the turf dug up from the path to create little pocket gardens, which will later be planted up as wildflower meadows and sensory areas.
The partnership between BSkyB and BTCV Scotland has been a great success since the beginning and very much looking forward to the 6 month celebration in August and to continue working together in the future.
