Welcome back to the Renfrewshire Green Gym blog page, the only place on the internet where you can keep up with the antics of the volunteers.
This week turned out to be a great week especially as we were at the Linwood Community Gardens not only once but twice this week, but the Wednesday was a special event. More on that later.
The bottle greenhouse at Linwood is coming along nicely as everything is starting to fall into place. First off, as you can see by the photo(which can be clicked on), the vegetables that we have planted are really starting to sprout now, which is a great feat considering they were only planted a few weeks ago. Also we have two sides up for the bottle greenhouse, which leaves me thinking maybe we got a bit too happy with the bottle collection. We will just have to wait till its completed before we know though, the rate the volunteers are going this will not be very long. On another note we finally managed to corral enough wooden pallets together to finally start building one of our wildlife towers, so that all the little creepy crawlies have somewhere to hide from the rain. Who knows they might even send us a few snaps of their holidays.
Wednesday was the day all the volunteers have been waiting for, YES you guessed it it’s the annual Green Gym Barbeque…. What is the world coming to when you can have a barbeque and not manage to burn any food. Yes miracles do happen. But at least we had enough of our own vegetables to go around. A really great day was had by all and the volunteers got a chance to catch up with all the other volunteers from different days.
On Thursday it was like we were all out on a day trip to the seaside, well thats what I had told the volunteers and they all seemed disappointed that they were going to get no work done. But thats when i sprang the suprise of “we’re not going to the seaside”, as if i would let the volunteers get away with an easy day. So while we were on the route to the seaside we detoured off the beaten track to the Wemyss Bay woodland to help remove Sycamore regrowth that is threatening some other species of tree. We also got the chance to build five nice habbitat piles for all the woodland creatures to cower from the elements.
Catch us again next week,
Yours
Leigh
