Well what a great month June has been so far. It’s nice that our greatest concern has been preventing sunburn and dehydration! As always our loyal Green Gymers have been working hard in Drumchapel. One session was spent at Garscadden Woods for our monthly visit. The first task was to try and reinstate the fire breaks in the bracken. Its amazing how quickly the bracken grows back considering there had been some fires in the woods a few months ago. So off we set and with bamboo canes and some heavy boots to break and trample the bracken. It’s a great task if your feeling a bit angry!
After a break we headed up into the woods under the shade of the trees and helped clear some drainage ditches of leaf litter. During this time we found some snails, some black snake millipedes and many pretty wildflowers.
The following week back to Drummore School we went. The school was hosting their eco event later in the week, so in we went to spruce up their gardens. The main task was to make the stepping stone path accessible again. It had become very overgrown and the kids hadn’t been able to use. After another few hours in the bright sunshine the job was done – woohoo!
See you on the 21st for our Labryinth project at Essenside Church.
