Hello again everybody, after I got back to the office from my holidays the interwebbies was broken so I have a lot of catching up to do with the blog. So hopefully everything is working ok and you can read this, if not then start to worry. 😀
First off let me say a wonderful thank you to the weather over the past two weeks, which has been absolutely amazing. Who would have thought you could get a really good suntan in the middle of Scotland, if you dont believe me I am walking proof as it looks like I was in Portugal for two weeks (if only).
What a busy two weeks it has been, as the Green Gym have been here there and everywhere so I will just keep this as minimal as possible.
A big thankyou to everybody that came to the Moss Road tidy session, as you can see by our photo we came across quite a lot of fly tipped rubbish that had been dumped around the site. This was probably left there by the cheeky men in the white van’s, yes you, you know who you are.
Finally we have a large amount of plastic bottles, thanks to you the volunteers and various schools and establishments in the Paisley area. So when we visited the Linwood Community Gardens we could actually make a start on the frame for the green house. The only thing left for us now is to finish off the frame for the greenhouse and then to continue cutting up all those lovely bottles, as the storage container is started to strain at its welds with all the weight.
Would you believe it every time I lead the group, something always seems to go off track. Take for example our afternoon out helping in Howwood. The delivery of plants that were to be bedded arrived about an hour and a half early, so quite a bit of work was already done by the Howwood group which saved us a great deal as we only had to dig holes and pop plants into them.
This leads me on to the Auchenback Primary School which was at the other end of the stick. This time the tree’s we were supposed to plant hadn’t arrived but we didn’t let that stop us and we made the most of the sunny day by clearing weed’s from the small garden at the front of the school, then we proceeded to dig pilot holes around the back of the school so when the tree’s do arrive they can be planted straight away.
The two remaining days we spent firstly at Lamont City Farm, where we were helping to clear a pond area of moss and rogue tree’s that had been blocking the path to the area, this was a great day as the sun was blazing down on us and all the volunteers worked as hard as they could to clear whatever was in our way. Then on the second we spent a lovely day in the sun at Braemont Care Home helping them to put in some new plants and to build a Pergola for the residents of the home, so they have somewhere to sit and spend the sunny days in the garden. Up untill this point I had absolutely no clue to what a Pergola is, but as you can see by the bottom picture it is a work in progress and will take a second visit to the site to finish it off.
lastly let me say a big thanks again to everybody that came along on our visits around Renfrewshire, hope to see you back with us again soon
Yours
Leigh
