The first session with volunteers after the launch took place on a chilly but sunny Thursday afternoon mid November – and what a great turn out!
Not only did two schools turn up but the sun shone too! We soon had a rather impressive pile gathered. The council have kindly agreed to uplift everything we clear on a Friday morning – think they’re very impressed with the amount they have to move each week!
With such an overgrown garden that has been untouched for years and left to grow very wild indeed, we do have a few problems on our hands….will we ever get through all this?! There is a path under here somewhere… I’m sure of it. Stuart and Dillon are on the case…
All the paths in the garden are hidden by overgrown vegetation – all of which seems to have thorns with thorns! Makes clearing it a lot more exciting! Chris and Grant have cracked it though:
It will take a bit of work to get the garden into a community garden with orchards, fruit, vegetables, herbs and wildlife friendly flowers, but doing even a little bit each week is starting to show. Gone will the fairytale-esque walls of thorns a la Sleeping Beauty be with the help from all who come along to help out – thanks everyone!
