We were back to Polkemmet Country Park again this week, this time with the Tuesday posse. Nice picturesque site, babbling stream running through it, and pretty quiet at this time of year. So we were undisturbed in our Rhododendron bashing and firestarting. Poor things didn’t stand a chance. Not with the judicious use of meths. And it made a change to have dry tinder. Amazing how much Rhodie you can clear in a morning. And how many stray golf balls we found. We should keep a tally and resell them all to the site at the end of the year! Ongoing work there will also see us tree planting, and path and pond building (!).
The rest of the week saw us on a nice two day project at the Rocheid Path between Inverlieth and Canon Mills.
Scene of a seriously good bit of edging last spring, if we do say so ourselves – 80 odd metres of it. This time we had to increase the fortifications, ie. fences, of this one area that the council would like to see regenerated. We also added a good deal of new planting and resited a number of holly trees to the edge of the path to create a natural barrier. Chance to show off our woodworking skills.
Quiz time this week was courtesy of Kirsty whose encyclopaedic knowledge of ancient and modern Egypt put us all in the shade. Team A = 5, Team B = 1. Out of 10. Oh the shame.
