This last fortnight we have been engaged in a brand shiny new project, Douglas Crescent gardens.
Douglas Crescent gardens are gardens owned by the community living on Douglas Crescent and the surrounding streets. It is a very steep site leading down to the water of Leith, and is a wonderful oasis of wildlife, like the robin who kept us company. Being a steep site, it is filled with steps which were first put in fifteen years ago. As such they have started to rot and become unsafe and so we have been called in to save the day!
We have come across lots of exciting new challenges on this project. For some it was their first time edging, and for others we had a chance to find out how to do willow weaving (and for others there was playing with the willow…)There was also lots of fun had with a crowbar to pull out steps, which seemed to be the highlight of some peoples day.
We had lots of laughs, with the usual amusement of people slowly sliding off down the hill as they worked or slipping down the steps on their rears. We have also had an endless stream of jokes cracked, especially when we were sharpening stakes (not for vampires, though you wouldn’t know it from the chat).
The project has progressed really fast, which we are really pleased with, and as usual the workmanship has been excellent. All in all, it has been a great fortnight.
