Over the last month the West Glasgow group and have been out and about as usual. Despite the terrible month we have had weather wise we managed to escape quite well. We are yet to have a proper soaking on a Monday so fingers crossed it stays that way! The group spent two sessions at Blairdardie Primary School where we have been helping with one of their garden areas. It was very overgrown and needed a good tidy so the children can plant it up properly next spring. After a couple of sessions the main bed had been tidied, vegetation removed or replanted, soil turned over and the beech hedge along the fence line had been cut back considerably.
The group also spend an afternoon working with the Countryside Rangers in the Drumchapel Woodland. Despite some showers we had a great session. Our first task of the day was to create a large fire break in the bracken to try and halt the spread of fire next summer. We also removed litter and fly tipped waste from the woodland. We were rewarded with a great view of Drumchapel from the newly installed bench and even spotted three roe deer – result!
