This week saw the end of the project at Donkey Field Orchard (for now…). On Tuesday we had another 10 tonnes of hardcore delivered which needed moving before the edging could be finished, so it was all about shovels and wheelbarrows. The final bit of edging and lining was done on Wednesday so the last of the hardcore could be laid. And then the whin dust arrived. All 11.46 tonnes of it. So it was more shovelling and barrowing on Thursday.
Along with a lot of tamping. The weather was miserable all day, so bad that we retreated to the van at lunchtime (a surprisingly rare occurrence at BTCV). The path was completed however, with Chris finishing off with the compactor creating some interesting bow waves in the wet dust as he went. Although I think there may in fact only be a couple tonnes of whin dust on the path as most of the rest seemed to go home on the volunteers. The path does look great though and everyone was very pleased with themselves. Job done.
