A great day today at the Dams To Darnley site.
We were grass raking in areas around the pond then collecting and removing the grass. The idea is that with the nutrients removed the wild flowers and orchids will thrive whereas invasive species such as Rose Bay Willowherb and Thistles will not.
We found plenty of frogs in the grass as we raked and put them out of harms way in the longer grass near the pond. We also came across 3 field voles and similarly put them in safer places (once we’d managed to catch them that is!).
Even the sun made an appearance on an unseasonably warm day, we were down to short sleeves once the raking started in earnest!
