This week we headed off to Calderbank Pond in Lanarkshire. Ponds provide not only a rich habitat for wildlife; an amenity for communities but are important for protecting and increasing freshwater biodiversity.
The team had travelled to Calderbank Pond last year however, this particular shallow pond had again become infested with Aquatic weeds commonly named pond weeds. These invasive water weeds were difficult to unplug as they were rooted in mud. With the dedication of our team of volunteers – who donned waders and wellies – the weeds were removed and on Thursday uplifted by skip.
On Thursday we said a very sad and fond farewell to our lovely Spanish Volunteer Officer Zurine Pardo (whom we affectionately called Zu!) Zu has spent the last four months working with us on a Spanish grant funded scheme. On behalf of the team I would like to express sincere gratitude to Zu for all her help, support and for her contribution to the team effort.
Zu take care.
Much love
