Today Inverness GreenGym improved and extended the drainage ditches adjacent to one of the paths in Merckinch Local Nature Reserve. In places this work was hampered by a layer of gravel and stones mere inches below the turf!
The last hour of the session we were joined by Katie, one of the Highland Council Rangers, who showed the group how to identify the trees in the Nature Reserve by both their leaves and berries, nuts or seed pods. The species found included Sea Buckthorn, Elder, Alder, Birch, Oak, Hazel, Gorse, Rowan and Blackthorn (Sloe).
