On Thursday we headed to Greenhead Moss Community Nature Park in Wishaw, Lanarkshire to help build an Earthship! Earthships were invented by Mark Reynolds an architect from New Mexico, U.S.A and this “Earthship inspired,” project within Wishaw is based on Michael’s original concept. Built using recycled materials mainly used tyres Earthships are self running and use renewable energy.
Apart from laying a footpath our task was to help ram earth into tyres and cover them with earth. We succeeded admirably despite very heavy rain. It was especially nice to meet two members from the BTCV group from Ayr…Katie the Community Projects Leader and her Volunteer Officer and also the excellent help and advice which we received from Elaine the Project Officer/Ranger for the Greenhead project.
Working with this project and as with all projects with BTCV not only gave us a sense of achievement but a sense of responsibility to our wonderful earth planet Mother Gaia.
