When we came back from Flanders Moss in the previous post the camera had broke which is the main reason there haven’t been any posts for a while, but since then the main thing we’ve been doing is willow spiling which is a method of reinforcing river banks using willow which is driven into the bank and woven horizontally between posts forming a barrier to reduce erosion from the water.
Freshly cut willow is used at this time of year so that it can hopefully take root and thus strengthen the bank internally aswell.
The cool thing was that none of us had ever done it before so we just had to learn on the job and it’s looking quite good.
We also got to break in the brand new chest waders with a pond clearance for Auchterarder Golf Club which had been frozen over the previous two times we went there. We were given two days to complete it but the shock of suddenly having equipment which hadn’t been made during the cold war meant we blitzed through it in just a single day.
Also we have a new VO Sandra from Spain starting this week which is nice and it makes a change from the Edinburgh office hogging all the Spanish volunteers.
