The last few months have been largely focused on path construction at Merkinch Local Nature Reserve (LNR), which is over a kilometre of wheelchair-accessible path along a sea wall. Other projects have included building a musical garden at Cauldeen Primary School.
The biggest change to have occurred is losing Gavin, who was a VO for 12 months and has accepted a wardening job. Gavin was a good motivator and teacher and will be sorely missed.
However, new VOs Dave and John have moved into the flat and are quickly learning the ropes.
All four VOs spent five days on a residential leadership course, learning about effective leadership styles, team-building, motivation, health and safety and catering for groups – as well as finding time to make snowmen and snowdogs.
The next few weeks will involve more path work, creating a wheelchair-accessible ramp down the sea wall to a boardwalk alongside a tidal lagoon, a project at Findhorn Foundation and a trip to Torridon to create a footpath and bridge.
