Teachers, pupils and local volunteers recently spent three days transforming an area of St Ninian’s Primary playing field into an outdoor learning zone for their nursery children. With expert guidance from professional willow weaver Geoff Forrest the previously featureless terrain was soon sporting a willow dome, willow tunnel and a variety of fedges. Everyone who took part very much enjoyed the experience (the home made cakes made all the difference). BTCV will be visiting the school soon to complete the willow classroom. It was a great effort by all concerned including BTCV’s midweek volunteer group who made repeated trips to a community woodlands site near Glasgow in order to collect the willow rods and bark. It should not be too long before the St Ninians pupils are using their willow classroom for interactive lessons whilst also learning more about their environment.
