The garden certainly looks very summery with more in bloom, and not just the buttercups! Amazing what a bit of heat and rain can do. The gang have taken grass-cutting into their own hands and getting even fitter by using a human-powered push mower – well the Green Gym is all about getting a bit fitter…And James can vouch for grass cutting as a great form of physical activity!
We got our hands on some leftover whin dust so we’ve been barrowing and raking and tamping it down, trust the weather to get warm and sunny when we have a few weeks of heavy work to do!
It seems a bit of a shame to cut the grass, as lots of speedwell have come up with the grass being left to grow a bit longer, as well as the odd forget-me-not. The perennial cornflowers are in full swing too. We managed to spot a lone poppy, part of a meadow mix sown last year, which will be its second year of being in bloom. We also spotted some allium bulbs finally coming up and into bloom. They are a bit tall so have succumbed to dogs knocking their tops off when running around…it’s a dog’s life indeed. Each week we come to the garden there is always someone sitting enjoying it, along with their four legged friends.
Some of the shrubs rescues from the buttercups at the end of last year have been rejuvenated, so we have a corner in the garden full of hostas, heucheras and hebes, not to mention some periwinkle and elephant’s ears (bergenia), but they don’t start with an ‘H’…
Thanks again to all those who come along every week to try and keep the garden in tow, to all those who enjoy the garden and all it’s glory and the dog owners who clean up after their furry friends, it’s very much appreciated 🙂
Until next time…
