Loch Flemington New Zealand Pygmy Weed control
As mentioned in our last post from up here at TCV Inverness (it was a while ago, I know, I do apologise!), the middle of August saw us “Highlanders” return to Loch Flemington for more New Zealand Pygmy Weed control. Regular readers of our posts will know the drill by now – we are laying membrame over the offending weed in an attempt to block the sunlight from getting to it. The images are quite self explanatory – volunteers let loose in waders and water! As pointed out one day by volunteer Clare, you can spot the people who are good with bedsheets! (ie not me, this VO comes non-equipped for expert bedmaking) The great thing about this project is we have all learned together, and each volunteer has their own knowledge and experience depending on which area of this bay we’ve worked in. Because this project is such a team effort it makes it a lot of fun and highlights the value of teamwork, and also what a great bunch of volunteers we have up here in Inverness!
The 14th August was also the last day of our volunteer Kirsty, who is headed away to college to study a HNC in Countryside and Environmental Management. (Kirsty is demonstrating some bio-security methods in the last photo above!) Kirsty is always up for anything and her enthusiasm, happy and friendly nature means she will be greatly missed. We wish her all the best here at TCV Inverness. However, we know she’ll be returning during her holidays so it won’t be long until she’s back out for a few days again – October mid-term break is only a few weeks now!
