15 June 2012 – Midweek Group
Yes, you’ve guessed it, more Himalayan Balsam. According to good ol’ wiki, it’s common alternative name is Policeman’s Helmet, due it’s flower resembling the shape of such… interesting. I much prefer the other one mentioned – Gnome’s Hatstand! Much more magical!
Duncan, Davey and Linda getting those pesky HB’s that are hiding in the nettles
This section is our last in this particular field which is a great feeling. When we started the edges were just covered in the Balsam and now it’s only nettles that can be seen!
New volunteer Sara-Jane getting stuck right in – VDO Elspeth scoping out the progress so far!
VO Gillian and Elspeth still smiling!
We’ll be back out this way next week, aiming to eradicate the actual Burn from the stuff – it’s just never ending in this spot!
A couple of a vols spotted a group of snails on a plant, which was nice to see. Google assures me the collective name for a group of snails is Escargatoire, meaning a nursery of snails.
It was nice to see the mixture of shell colourings and markings together also. My knowledge of snails is zilch, so my reaction to them is based on aesthetics 😉
As always, all our photos can be found on our flickr page.
