This week we were back at Almondell Country Park in West Lothian.
Our main task was to work on a strech of path leading from the north car park to the main public path into the park. The existing path had been worn away and had become a mud track with lots of trip hazards like tree roots sticking up above the ground. First we removed all the minging sloppy water logged mud from the path, we then built up the level of the path with hardcore to cover the exposed tree roots. We then topped the path with whin dust and compacted it down with a whacker plate to give the path a good solid and smooth finish making it suitable for buggys, push chairs and wheel chairs.
We also dug some drainage ditches away from the path to stop the path becoming water logged or getting washed away in the winter.
Once our path was completed we kept busy by scraping mud and dead vegetation from steps (making them more defined and safer) and doing some woodland management (cutting back branches over hanging paths and crown lifting trees by cutting off any branches below head height)
