Today we went to visit a community that are self sustaining near Coalburn. As a “community” they try to live off the land and try to limit their impact on the environment. We had a look around and helped them out a bit. We had a look at the hydro plant that was not running, as there had been a few leaks in the system and the flow through the turbine is not correct at the moment.
Steve (one of the residents) had fixed the leaks, so we gave him a hand to fill in the holes with soil. We also started digging a new hole for the exit pipe but soon hit a stone floor and the midges were getting bad! We helped weeding out the strawberries and the blackberries, trying a few at the same time too! This looked a place that could work if everyone does there share, may be not to everyone’s taste but the people were very welcoming and the Tomato soup was excellent!
