As I thought, it was back to the regulars for the conservation day but we all got stuck in and got loads done. Bad new from the community centre – two scarecrows have been burnt and the other one was thrown over a fence. The people (kids) responsible tried to burn one of the beds as well but it survived intact. There may be trouble ahead!
We have been picking out the Rosebay willow herb for some time now and we are winning the battle, just! Glen, Frank and myself went for it big time and cleared loads of the stuff. We have placed the stems in between the trees, so they will rot down and provide nutrients for the trees. As we were doing this, Danny and Abi were marking out trees to thin down in a new part of the woods for me.
The trees are in need of thinning and we made good progress today. After boring myself of the willow herb, I joined Abi and Danny to fell some of the marked trees. I enjoyed this part even though it takes a bit out of you.
Cheers
Colin
