So the time has come to start our drystone seating. But before we can do the fun walling part, we have to do the messy foundations part. So we’ve spent the last 3 weeks digging some very large, muddy holes, with not very many people. It’s been pretty tough going but the concrete mini-mixer was booked so we had our deadline. Extra bodies got roped in from all over the place. In fact there were 3 VOs and 2 staff members on site. Alongside our Thursday regulars, we had the BLES boys turn up to give us a hand which was fab, and also some unsuspecting teenage boys with their project worker which was an unexpected but very welcome bonus.
It was a little bit tight getting it all dug out and the edging in, but fortunately the mixer was running a wee bit late which suited us just fine! Despite the terrible weather, we got it all done, making a bit of a mess in the process but the grass will recover! So the walling starts this week! …assuming the concrete has set ok in this terrible weather. Also this week we’re planting bulbs to give the garden a splash of springtime colour. Here’s hoping the weather holds off for us.
