Hopefully by now most of you will have met me but for those of you who haven’t my name is Kerr Murray a.k.a “The New Leigh” not quite sure if I like that knickname yet. I started work on Monday and so far I have really enjoyed myself although to be honest the weather this week my have had something to do with that, personally though I can’t wait to try out my new waterproofs. I will be the one who get’s the privilege of writing the blog’s weekly so unfortunately for you, you will need to bare with me until i get the hang of it.
On Tuesday we were out in the Linwood Community Gardens finishing off the path with pegs for the logs around the edge. The weather was really nice which was surprising because it looked like it was going to rain in the morning. It was incredibly windy mind you. I also along with a couple of volunteers I had the task of attempting to weed the monoblock paving. 3 hours later, with a sore back, sore knees and having the monoblock patern burned into my eyes I looked up and realised we had only covered a quarter of the area. We also did some repairs to the bottle greenhouse as the wind had caused one of the collums to fall off but it was promptly reapaired. To julie’s delight the radishes had come up nicely along with some carrots and broccoli in the vegetable patch. I believe that she had radish, carrot and broccoli soup for dinner that evening.
On Thursday we were at the Kilbarchan Old library and once again it was a beautiful afternoon which is even more surprising as it had been raining in the morning.
Our tasks for the day were to finish off the compost bins and chop down a tree. We were joined by another member of BTCV John who was full of good advice for me. To the surpirse of everybody we’d just about finished all of the tasks for the day by tea time so then we had to find something else to do. Julie decided that we should weed and rake the path, after the path had been raked we had to walk accross it to compress it.
John had a particularly interseting technique that wouldn’t have been out of place on striclty come dancing.
I would just like to thank all of the volunteers for their help this week and I hope to get to know you all over the coming 6 months
Kerr.
