Well that is the question all our volunteers have been asking this past week, it is still summer but you wouldn’t have guessed it. I think you’ve just been spoiled by a nice few weeks and everybody wants it to continue. Well I cannot conjure up miracles but hopefully the sun will return next week (crosses fingers).
Even though we’ve had no sun, its not stopped our hardy bunch of volunteers coming out and getting their hands dirty. On Tuesday we all piled into the van for our usual Tuesday trip out to the Linwood Community Garden, where work is continuing on the bottle greenhouse. The greenhouse now has four sides and one part of the roof completed. So definetly not long to go untill the project is finished, we just need the roof and door finished off then we can start celebrating. As you can see by our photo Robert is ever keen on doing the weeding, which is a never ending task. I personally think the weeds are trying to get their own back on him by chasing him around the gardens, it wouldn’t suprise me though.
On Wednesday we visited Jenny’s Well in the heart of Paisley, for a litter pick and to cut back any bushes that have started to overhang the cycle path. Todays visit actually suprised me as there was hardly any rubbish to be found on site, always a good sign.
Thursday turned out to be a great day out when we headed to Whinnerston grasslands, even though the weather was against us for quite a large part of it. Once we arrived on site we tasked the volunteers with removing Ragwort from one of the fields surrounding the farm. After an hour all the volunteers including Julie and myself were soaking wet. I dont know about the other volunteers but i had about two inches worth of water in my boots, so they spent all weekend drying out. I just hope all the other volunteers boots have dried out also. But considering the weather everybody still managed to have a great day out.
Thanks again all you wonderful volunteers, dont forget to join us again next week for more adventures in the Green Gym bus. Dont miss out.
Yours
Leigh
