Well its been a while since our last blog – a few people have moved on – Alan thanks for your help especially with blogging and facing the cold weather we had at Nith street! We wish you the best of luck – Alan is going to explore other volunteer opportunities nearer to home and we hope he does well in whatever he does!
Jimmy is away now – Jimmy was with us for six months doing a future jobs fund placement – Jimmy was a key part in the running of the office and he will be sadly missed. In honour of his leaving we held our first (and hopefully not last) BBQ at Lochore meadows last thursday which was a nice way to end the week! Jimmy is off to look for another job and we wish him the best of luck and hope to see him
return as a volunteer in the near future! Good luck Jimmy!! 🙂
Tony has joined us a VO and is doing some fantastic work – Tony has a great background and is very practical – he can turn his hand to just about anything!!! From slabbing, to fencing to paths – you name it he can do it – thanks for all your hard work Tony – you’re doing a fantastic job!
As to the rest of the gang, we have been up to all sorts! We have a volunteer on a triage placement – Angela from Glenrothes who is on to her 4th week of her placement – Angela has been volunteering at the green gym in Glenrothes and she signed up with us for full time hours through triage whilst she looks for a job. Angela is a great addition to the team and has stepped into the drivers seat for us as well!! Thanks for your help there Angela!
We have been working up at the ecology centre at craigencault over the past few weeks – our main task here has been to help with levelling an area of ground around 3 large raised beds built to accommodate wheelchair users – so they are at a set height which makes it easy for those in chairs to garden to their hearts content! We are slabbing the area and have been sieving through an enormous pile of mud which is being used to fill the raised beds themselves. We hope they find it a good spot to work from.
We recently finished our mammoth task at St Andrews – sewing the sand dunes back together with jute matting and twine! We have been working up there with Thomas Menzies employees to restore the storm ravaged dunes which were taken out (literally) in the severe storms we had in March. We will be back here in the autumn to plant in some marram and lyme grasses and then the area will be left for a substantial period while it re-establishes to its former state.
So we have been busy bees in Fife – last week the gang helped at Leven to do a major cleanup along the river there – we went armed with bags and litter pickers to support the Take a Pride in Levenmouth Project.
And now we have a shiny new camera there will be no stopping the blogs!!
