Hello and welcome back to the Renfrewshire Green Gym’s weekly blog, one of the many places that you can keep up with the weekly goings on out and about in Renfrewshire. What a great week for the weather this has been and if your anything like me, you will just love being out and about in the sunshine getting a lovely tan while we work. Well I certainly am getting a tan, so much so that i have to be careful and use lotion every day. If I dont then people might start to think i’ve had a cheeky holiday in Australia, If only that was the case, as there would never be enough time to escape from the volunteers as they are always as keen as me to be helping the local area.
For the start of the week we were at the Linwood Community Gardens to continue construction on the bottle green house. I know it been ages since we first started asking people to collect bottles for us, but now that we have enough bottles the work is coming along very quickly as everybody seems keen to get it finished, Which is always a good thing 😀
On Wednesday we were tasked with a litter pick at the Bluebell Woods in Johnstone, which is a site we had previously visited. It always shocks me how fast things can grow, as I was only there the previous week for a site visit and everything was around knee height. But when we visited on Wednesday everything had suddenly sprouted up to around shoulder height, seeing as i’m just over six foot tall its remarkable growth in such a short time. All this growth did nothing to hide the litter from the keen eyes of our volunteers and we managed to collect seven green bags full of general litter and waste that had been left lying around the woods.
Thursday was most possibly in the top five of best ever All Day sessions. We headed back up to Muirshiel Country Park (a place we usually only see in the winter) to help the Rangers with some summer tasks. So no rhoddy bashing or bonfires, instead sunshine, waterfalls and of course …. midges! In the morning we made some habitat piles for the bugs and beasties but we gave up after a while and headed to the waterfall to get away from the midges. After lunch we had a great walk up Windy Hill and were rewarded with some great views over towards Glencoe. After much debate we decided that we couldn’t see the Cobbler, or was it that jaggy bit behind the other one – who knows! Anyway a great day was had by all and was lovley to see Muirshiel in the sunshine!
Thanks again Ladies and Gents, we’ll see you again next week for more sunshine.
Yours
Leigh
