This morning saw us out at the old Himalayan Balsam culling again. We are working our way along the banks of the Conon and Peffery rivers ridding the sites of this pernicious plant. Today we split into two main groups-me and them- and whilst I worked from the patch we’d reached the last time and seemed therefore sensible to keep working systematically from this point (but Hey? What do I know?!!),the others headed for a spot further up river where shelter could be found under the bridge from the immenent rain fall. I can’t speak for the others but I know I cleared a rather significant amount and stopped in its tracks the plant’s ability to produce seed from the flower heads in evidence. Sadly the rain began to fall inevitably and, despite our fervent efforts not to give in,in the end we were forced to admit defeat and head home. Several soggy souls sitting in a steamy minibus. Still a good day was had by all and there’s enough HB to keep us going next time.
