‘The spit’ (a piece of land jutting out between two conservation lakes) at Priory Country Park got the BTCV treatment in June. A couple of the platforms & assoicated steps were reconstructed on 16th June by myself and 4 leaders (after the cancellation by a volunteer group). You can see photographs (courtesy of Jane Moore) of this day here.

Above: Helen & Elly take the old platform apart.
Above: Hazel is putting the timber frame together. I am holding the frame steady & making unhelpful comments (i.e. rather bad jokes).
Above: The new steps are being put back in. Here, Helen is using a sledge hammer to knock the stobs (stakes) into the ground while the metal bars are being used to hold the stob in the right place. Cue more unhelpful comments from me!!
Above: A team photo. From the left – Elly, Jane, Ed (me), Hazel and Helen. A marvelous job and a good time was had by all (especially Jane who was in her element – waders, water & mud).
Two more were subsequently refurbished by the Weekday Conservation Team at the end of June (while another team were reconstructing the weir – for this, please see other posts).
