Well, you might even be able to say 3 hedges as 3 seperate secti?ons were completed recently at Warden Hill SSSI, Luton on behalf of Luton Borough Council.
Two sections were seperated by virtue of a fence & kissing gate (a gate we previously re-installed) and the third was the opposite side of the bridleway!
Above: The first section of hedge (approximately 20 metres). To the left is the kissing gate mentioned above. The photograph also shows some tree planting to fill in some gaps.
Above: The second section of hedge (approximately 30 metres). The above mentioned kissing gate is on the right hand side.
Above: The 3rd section of hedge (approximately 16 metres). This was opposite section 2. Following the hedge line along (right hand side) major gaps in the hedge were planted rather than being layed at this time.
Over the last 6 years, The Conservation Volunteers must have layed at least 2000 metres (2km) of hedge just in the Warden Hill area of Luton. As a result, lots of people have benefitted from the exercise and learnt a traditional craft.
