The Brickhill Community Allotment is really starting to take shape now and reward the group’s hard work! The ground is still very heavy clay, so here Debbie is planting a green manure crop to help us improve the soil quality. Over time, we’re managing to improve the soil by adding compost as well – and some of the plants are really responding – see the huge amount of cherry tomatoes on the plants (I just hope they ripen soon before the cold weather arrives!)
Eva, as well as providing very tasty cakes for the group, is also good at growing flowers – here she’s watering the cosmos plants which look pretty as well as attracting beneficial insects.
Everyone is welcome at the community allotment sessions on Saturday mornings. Next week you can see us at work at the Brickhill allotments open afternoon, Saturday 8th September 2-4 so come along and say hello! We’re also running an introduction to food growing course at the site on September 22nd, so if you fancy learning a few hints and tips, get in touch with Katherine (details on the right) to book a place!
