The Green Corridors project is funded by Luton Borough Council and Chalk Arc. Some of this BTCV volunteers have carried out. The Bedfordshire Wildlife Trust are also involved.
At the Lancaster Avenue Recreation Ground, we were asked to construct a fence (sorry but I have no photographs), clear vegetation from either side of the footpath to improve access (again no photographs), plant trees (see previous post for more info & photographs) and construct a knee rail.
Above: The rail directs the public either side of the hedge row.
Above: Steve who helped in the construction started volunteering for BTCV and now ‘moonlights’ for The Wildlife Trust! Though he now volunteers for The Wildlife Trust more than he does for BTCV, at least on this occasion I could count him in BTCV volunteer statistics! And at his request, The Wildlife Trust have some free publicity!
Above: Another view.
Improvements to another footpath very close to Lancaster Avenue Rec Ground were carried out by BTCV including another knee rail, revetments and vegetation clearance.
Above: Looking towards the footpath that runs alongside Lancaster Avenue Rec Ground – vegetation was cleared here.
Above: Looking towards Warden Hill, as well as clearing vegetation, we installed this knee rail and put the revetment boards in. The wood chipping was added at a later date.
