Another project funded by GreenPrints, again for involving 16-25 year olds in volunteering. This time volunteers from Autism Bedfordshire along with volunteers from Samuel Whitbread and Mark Rutherford schools came to Priory Country Park and cleared scrub/small trees from the woodland to let in more light to the ground and therefore help improve biodiversity and make the woodland walk nicer to walk through.
Nick from Autism Bedfordshire said: “Altogether a good day was had by all, we worked well as a team and we learnt a lot about conservation and our environment. This is another example of the Adult Skills group volunteering to help the community.”
Above: Ben (from Mark Rutherford School) with a tangle of trees!
Above: Nathan (from Mark Rutherford School) is dead hedging – this creates a type of habitat pile – good for insects and therefore birds!
Above: Nathan felling a small tree.
Above: Luke and Tom P moving the arisings to the dead hedge. It’s definitely looking a lot lighter in there already.

A special thanks to everybody who participated with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. You all did brilliantly. Thank you to Sally from Autism Bedfordshire, Nikki from Connexions and Julie and Dawn from Samuel Whitbread and Mark Rutherford Schools for helping organise the day and helping it to run smoothly!
