As the end of Winter draws closer, the days are getting longer, bulbs are emerging and there are plenty of jobs to get your green space ship shape and ready for the spring. Here is the list for you budding gardeners this February:
Time for a Spring Clean- Now is a great time to give your greenhouse a good clean in anticipation of the season to come. Armed with a bucket of warm soapy water, a cloth and a little elbow grease, remove any built up grime and get your greenhouse sparkling.
Preparation is Key- Make sure you are ready for the upcoming growing season by preparing your vegetable seed beds, you can even sow some vegetables providing they are kept under covers.
Plant some Roses- If you have any roses that need planting, now is the opportune moment. Save off the pruning till the temperatures increase, this will ensure the new cuts don’t suffer from frost burn.
Feed the Birds- The birds energy reserves will be getting depleted owing to the cold winter and scarcity of food, give them a helping hand to tide them over till spring by putting out seeds and fat balls.
Seasons Passed- Time to prune those winter flowering plants, providing they have finished of course!
Potato Preparation- Order your seed potatoes. Keep your seed potatoes cool, with plenty of light while they are being chitted. Avoid planting for at least a month. Put your seed potatoes in open trays in your greenhouse.
The Root of your Problems- As the bare ground leaves weeds more visible perhaps it is time to tend to those pesky buttercups and nettles.
